## Who Winston Everlast is

Winston Everlast is an American haiga artist and poet in a traceable lineage of American haiku: Raymond Roseliep (1917–1983, Dubuque, Iowa) taught Bill Pauly, who taught Winston Everlast. Everlast trained for five years in Japan, including formal study of nihonga (Japanese-style painting in mineral pigments). His body of work numbers more than 700 haiga.

## What haiga is

Haiga is a Japanese art form in which a brief poem — traditionally a haiku — is paired with a painted or drawn image, composed as a single work in which neither merely illustrates the other. The form dates to seventeenth-century Japan (Bashō, Buson). This site presents haiga in five poetic forms: haiku, senryu, zappai, katauta, and aphorism, each defined on the About Haiga page.

## Human–AI partnership (人＋機)

Every haiga on this site pairs a poem written by Winston Everlast with an image developed in partnership with AI image models (MidJourney). The model version used for each work is recorded and displayed. The site maintains a seven-version chronicle documenting how the same poetic intention renders across successive model versions — a sustained provenance record for AI-assisted haiga.
